Veterinary Seminar - Moulton College
After the success of the Veterinary Seminar at Middleham this year the NTF is arranging another one at Moulton College in Northampton on the 7th September 2009. Topics will include Hydrotherapy display; Stem Cell therapy; Do Diets make a difference?; the importance of stable staff fitness and a demonstration of the dynamic respiratory scope. REPORT ON ANIMAL HEALTH BODY CONSULTATION
The June newsletter reports that amongst other consultations, the Government is asking the livestock sector for its views on a proposal to create a new independent body to take over Defra’s responsibilities for animal health.
On Friday 29th May, Rupert Arnold attended one of Defra’s roadshows, which are entitled “Responsibility and Cost Sharing Regional Events”, where Defra officials are explaining the proposals and listening to the industry’s views. The Government believes the current structure for dealing with animal diseases has not served the sector well; its proposals are aimed at improving the management of disease “surveillance, preparedness and outbreaks.”
Although it is intended that there will be less political interference and more say for the livestock sector, there is a cost to the sector in the form of a 50% share of the £44m annual budget for surveillance and preparedness and a compulsory insurance scheme to cover 50% of the cost of outbreaks.... TIMING OF RACE DIVISIONS
Trainers and jockeys’ agents sometimes face difficulties booking rides when there is uncertainty over the running time of race divisions. Options to make this easier were discussed yesterday by the Racing Committee. As a result, the BHA has agreed to look at low-cost ways of using the Racing Administration website to inform trainers at declaration of the running time of race divisions. 4/6/2009
